Managing Director

The Managing Director will work alongside the Co-Artistic Directors to guide the development of a vision and strategy for the organization’s long-term growth and will provide strong leadership for the staff and the community. Within this collaborative partnership, the Managing Director is responsible for rendering the Co-Artistic Director’s vision into practicable initiatives that are financially sound, logistically supported, and aligned with Theatre Prometheus’ overall mission. The Managing Director is responsible for overseeing the business, administrative, and operational management of the company. Responsibilities are undertaken collaboratively with department heads and other staff.

Responsibilities include:

  • Shared Executive Leadership - Work with the Co-Artistic Directors to update, maintain, and execute Theatre Prometheus’ strategic plan with emphasis on fundraising, finance, organizational structure, and operations—in support of the company’s mission and vision.

  •  Lead Operational and Administrative DutiesWork with each department to ensure efficient and streamlined operations including, but not limited to, contract compliance, data management, meeting protocols, cross-departmental communications, technological advancements, etc. 

  • Oversee Strategic Development & Fundraising - Collaborate with the Development Director and work in collaboration to plan, execute, and monitor fundraising initiatives.

  • Oversee Company Communications - Collaborate with the Communications Director and work in collaboration to plan, execute, and monitor a comprehensive outreach and communications strategy that engages audiences, increases ticket sales, and positions our voice more prominently in the DC community. 

  • Manage Company Budget and Oversee Finance - Collaborate with the Finance Director and lead the development and management of a financially sound season budget.

  • External Relations - Work alongside the Co-Artistic Directors to develop strategic relations with community partners and act as a representative of Theatre Prometheus at appropriate workshops, events, and meetings.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated background in operations or project management 

  • Excellent organizational skills with an eye for processes and efficiency 

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team

Preferred experience:

  • Background in management or leadership 

  • Experience with contract, proposal, or grant writing with a background in fundraising or Major Gifts 

  • Fluency in Excel and budgeting

Please note that we are not currently able to provide full payment for this position. We offer a small yearly stipend for all of our administrative staff and use the rest of our limited budget to pay artists and tech crew. We are eager to work with you to grow our budget to the point that we can change this!
